On November 6th, representatives of 30 companies were ‘transported’ to the world of trucking by CEO, DAF Trucks Ltd., Mr. Ray Ashworth in a presentation at Rabobank International, London.
Mr. Ashworth outlined the history of DAF and its route to growing its UK share of the heavy and light trucks market against growing competition especially from the east and international mergers. Adding to that competition, Mr. Ashworth explained how longer life-spans and greater capacity of trucks had seen overall numbers on UK roads drop from 470 thousand to 380 thousand in the last 50 years compared with an increase from 2.6 to more than 29 million cars in the same period.
The presentation also covered innovation and how legislation was frequently the driving force behind new developments such as in reduced emissions and increased fuel efficiency.
The presentation was introduced by NBCC Chairman, Anton Valk, who gave a back-ground briefing on the overall automotive market, its trends and developments.
Attending the presentation were representatives from international banks and multinationals to boutique strategy consulting companies in the automotive market. Networking and informal discussions followed on innovation, the energy market, new technologies and the automotive market in general.
