At a recent NBCC event, attendees didn’t have to be Beatles fans…but it helped. “Something about the Beatles” was an interactive session by ‘serial entrepreneur’ Mike Southon that used the iconic band, one of the UKs biggest exports, to illustrate entrepreneurship.
An audience of NBCC members and Dutch Centre guests were taken through three key elements of being an entrepreneur: having a great vision wrapped up in a concise elevator pitch; getting a mentor who can stretch you; and securing your first customer. Mike gave examples of how the Beatles demonstrated all three elements (covered in his book “Beermat Entrepreneur”) as well as showing how the differing personalities and working styles of John Lennon and Paul McCartney added to the band’s strength and creativity.
Hosted at the Dutch Centre in London, and with music that much of the Western world has grown up with, the presentation closed on the legacy the Beatles have sustained for decades and one of the lyrics that will resonate with any ambitious entrepreneur: ‘There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done’.

Mike Southon has written several books on entrepreneurship. More information can be found here:
