NBCC Event Review: London City Airport means business

NBCC event: London City Airport means business

More than 30 NBCC members participated in the recent visit to London City Airport, the ONLY airport actually located in London. London City Airport (LCY), just 22 minutes from Bank station in the City, is the ideal airport for those who need to fly in and out of London.

LCY, who have recently joined the NBCC as a Premier Member, offered NBCC members and their guests a unique opportunity to see operations from behind the scenes, including an insight into the passenger movement control rooms and the advanced visitor monitoring systems.

In order to ensure maximum involvement of NBCC members and to maintain a smooth operation, the NBCC contingent was split into three groups which were all offered the tour in a most pleasant and efficient way, under the guidance of the commercial team of LCY and their operational colleagues.

A visit to the ramp, with detailed explanations by the airport ramp’s operations manager, was also included in the two hour tour which ended in style with a great networking lunch in The City Bar.

Holding the event in September was of particular interest as earlier in the month the airport saw its busiest ever week with 93,996 passengers, beating the old record of 91,826 set in March 2015.

The increasing popularity of the airport shows the need for expansion with a view to meeting the airport management’s ambition to use the runway to its full capacity. London City Airport has been a vital gateway into London since 1987, and by the end of 2015, is set to welcome 4.2 million passengers. In order to meet demand, connect to new destinations, and add vital aviation capacity in the South East, it needs to grow.

In March this year the Mayor of London directed the local planning authority to refuse the airport’s development programme, a decision that the airport is challenging, with their appeal scheduled for March 2016.

Here you will find out what expansion at LCY will contribute to London, the UK, to key markets and how you can show your support for the plans.

With many NBCC members and staff using LCY frequently, we would like to support the appeal and we invite readers of our newsletter to express their support.

NBCC management is grateful to London City Airport for an unforgettable experience and for their support to NBCC’s cause to provide its membership with entertaining and relevant business events.
