On 29 November, NBCC members were invited to the NBCC Brexit Forum Seminar “A Status Update on Brexit” at our strategic partner Clifford Chance in Amsterdam.

An update on Brexit was given from different perspectives. Robert van der Jagt, Chairman of KPMG’s EU Tax Centre outlined the position of the Dutch Government towards Brexit, highlighting the new coalition agreement and its key priorities. Philip Souta, Partner at Clifford Chance, gave an update on Brexit from a UK perspective. Souta outlined the general UK political perspective and highlighted the legal perspective by explaining the progress of the EU Withdrawal Bill and how the UK is preparing itself for Brexit legally.

Before the break, NBCC invited Stefaan de Rynck to the stage. Stefaan de Rynck is advisor to Michel Barnier who is the Chief Negotiator in Brexit on behalf of the EU. Stefaan de Rynck gave intel on where the negotiations are at through an update on phase 1 and an outline of when to expect phase 2 to start. He shared information on the different possible transitional agreements and shared the end vision of the European Union.

After the break, Joris Luyendijk presented his personal view on Brexit and its progress “The EU27 is a fleet, and one ship (UK) decided to sail off”.
